WordPress or Shopify for your online store?

When you decide to open an online store, the first question usually isn't "what will I sell" but "which platform will I build it on". WooCommerce (running on WordPress) and Shopify are the two most popular choices, and the right answer depends on how you work, not on which platform is "better" in absolute terms.

When WooCommerce is the right fit

If you already have, or plan to get, a WordPress site, WooCommerce gives you full control over your store — you can change almost anything through the thousands of plugins available. But that also means you (or the team supporting you) are responsible for updates, security, and hosting. It suits people who want flexibility and don't mind a bit more technical management.

When Shopify is the right fit

Shopify takes care of hosting, security, and updates for you — you pay a monthly subscription, but you don't have to think about technical matters behind the scenes. It suits people who want to launch quickly and focus on sales rather than platform management.

What actually makes sense

There isn't one right answer for everyone. If you already have people who know WordPress, or you want full control in the long run, WooCommerce makes sense. If you want to start without technical overhead, Shopify is more straightforward. In the ecommerce development we do, we always start by asking how you work today, before recommending a platform.
